Immerse yourself in India, a nation that embraces both the dynamic forces of globalization and the deep-rooted traditions of an ancient culture. On the interdisciplinary ACM India: Culture, Traditions, & Globalization program, you can engage with the people, culture, and social and economic issues of the world’s largest democracy.
Experience the rhythm of daily life in Pune, a city in the state of Maharashtra that reflects nearly all of the nation’s religious, social, and ethnic diversity.
By studying Marathi language and living in a homestay with an Indian family, you’ll deepen your understanding of Indian society and open doors for meeting people and conducting research for your independent study project.
Field trips will take you to places such as the ancient rock-hewn temples and caves in Ellora and Ajanta, both World Heritage Sites, and a one-week break allows time for your own travel. The program’s courses are augmented by weekly activities outside of the classroom, and are also opportunities to volunteer with local organizations.
- Marathi Language: Study is intensive at the beginning of the program.
- Contemporary India: An overview of Indian culture, society, history, politics, and events.
- Elective Course: Choose among courses with a special emphasis on the state of Maharashtra. Recent electives have included public health, gender and culture, film, literature, political science, environmental studies, and sociology.
- Independent Study Project: Plan and complete a project in your chosen field in the natural sciences, social sciences, or humanities under the guidance of a highly qualified Indian advisor.
