Boasting the world’s eighth largest economy, a multicultural population, and rich natural resources, Brazil is at the heart of economic, political, and social affairs in South America. The country takes great pride in its captivating music scene, renowned soccer teams, stunning natural environment, and annual Carnival celebrations.
For a true insider’s view of Brazil, become an exchange student at Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF) on the ACM Brazil: Semester Exchange at UFJF program. Through direct enrollment, you can choose content courses from across the UFJF curriculum — in the arts and humanities, sciences, and social sciences — as you take classes taught in Portuguese alongside Brazilian students and join your classmates in extracurricular activities.
The Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF) is one of Brazil’s highly rated public universities, with about 11,000 undergraduate students. The university is located in the city of Juiz de Fora, nestled in the low mountains of the state of Minas Gerais, two hours north of Rio de Janeiro.
As a student at UFJF, you'll become completely immersed in Portuguese language and Brazilian culture by sharing an apartment with with Brazilian or other international students, navigating daily tasks such as shopping and public transportation, and enjoying Juiz de Fora’s lively music and arts scene.
- For the first two weeks after arrival in Brazil, students take a two-credit, intensive Portuguese language and orientation course.
- Once the university semester begins, students enroll in three or four classes of their choosing. A semester-long Portuguese language course is recommended.
- All courses at UFJF are taught in Portuguese. Students must have completed formal study of a foreign language, preferably Portuguese or another Romance language, and have strong motivation to develop advanced level proficiency in Portuguese.
