CIEE Advanced Chinese Studies Program in Beijing, China 

The Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and the Olympic Stadium are just some of the awesome historic sites that will amaze you in and around China’s capitol city. And as you get familiar with its many sights and sounds, you’ll push your solid Mandarin skills even further ahead. Reinforce all you’re learning with meaningful volunteering, cultural activities, and even research. It’s a study-abroad experience that’s out of this world.

  • Take your Chinese language skills to a professional level with one-on- one tutorials and special meals.

The CIEE Study Center at Peking University opened in 1980, and this program, appropriate for highly motivated, superior-level Chinese language students was started in 2009. It’s designed for students to take content classes completely in Chinese with Chinese undergraduate students.

Once in Beijing, students must to pass a placement exam to enroll in one of these schools or departments of Peking University: School of Mathematical Sciences, School of Physics, College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, School of Life Sciences, Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Department of History, School of International Studies, School of Economics, Guanghua School of Management, and School of Journalism and Communication.

Students agree to speak Chinese in certain situations to encourage language and cultural acquisition.

Peking University (PKU). Founded in 1898, prestigious PKU has a long tradition of scholarly excellence and political activism. PKU focuses on advanced research in the natural and social sciences. The campus, previously an imperial garden in the Qing Dynasty, hosts 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students. PKU has modern classrooms and recreational facilities, many cafeterias, and easy access to mass transit – all within short walking distance.

Direct enrollment courses are taught by PKU faculty. The CIEE course is coordinated by the CIEE staff.
