What are the monsters of England - real and imagined? Traveling through this richly haunted country from London to Yorkshire, we'll explore the places and people associated with some of its greatest writers and biggest historical questions, from the 18th century to the present. Mary Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN (1818), Emily Bronte's WUTHERING HEIGHTS (1847), Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" (1886), Bram Stoker's DRACULA (1897), and George Orwell's NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR (1947) will anchor our explorations in literary study, creative writing, medical history, violence tourism, two Great Wars, and the zombie afterlives of empire in a newly Brexitized world.
